Bola Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for president, has requested that Atiku Abubakar resign from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and support him (Tinubu) ahead of the presidential election in February 2023.
When Atiku ran for president in 2007 as a candidate for the now-defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Tinubu requested him to “return the gesture” by endorsing him.
On Monday, Tinubu participated in an interactive session while hosting a meeting with leaders from the nation’s north under the auspices of the Arewa Joint Committee.
In advance of the general elections in 2023, the meeting was a part of a larger interaction with a few presidential hopefuls.
Two days prior to Tinubu’s appearance, his PDP competitor had a comparable conversation with the northern leaders. A coalition of six Northern organizations, including the Arewa Consultative Forum, Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation, Northern Elders Forum, and Jamar Matan Arewa, among others, organized the interactive session that took place in the Arewa House in Kaduna.
