On Wednesday, the Delta House of Assembly approved the N571.6 billion 2023 Appropriations Bill. The House Committee on Finance and Appropriations report was adopted during the Assembly plenary session in Asaba, and then the Appropriation Bill was passed.
Recurrent expenses totaling N235.5 billion and capital expenses totaling N336.1 billion make up the budget. The committee’s chairman, Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu, delivered the report and noted that the budget had increased by N10 billion from the N562 billion that Governor Ifeanyi Okowa had earlier provided.
The budget for 2023, dubbed the “Budget of Seamless and Stable Transition,” was focused on long-term investment in new and continuing projects that generate employment and business prospects, among other things, she said.
Ms Ibori-Suenu added, “The committee, after careful evaluations in the various heads and sub-heads, decided to return the budget estimate of N571.6 billion.”
As a result, the motion for the third reading and approval of the appropriation measure was made by majority leader Ferguson Onwo. Innocent Anidi, who represents the Ethiope East district, seconded the proposal, which was unanimously approved by the Assembly when put to a voice vote by the speaker, Chief Sheriff Oborevwori.
