This Saturday, pilots at Kenya Airways, the countryâs flag carrier, will strike, according to union officials. The pilotsâ union, which is demanding that the airline resume making contributions to their retirement fund, issued a two-week strike notice that has since expired. The action has taken place in the days since.
According to the Kenya Airline Pilots Association (Kalpa), as of Saturday at 6:00 local time, none of its members would report for duty at Nairobiâs Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
The biggest airport in the nation and the fourth busiest in Africa is located there.
âKenya Airways Managementâs actions have left us with no other option,â reads the statement signed by union by general secretary Murithi Nyagah.
The airlineâs operations continued as usual on Thursday despite the unionâs 14-day strike notice expiring on Wednesday.
The increased calls for a strike have not yet received a response from Kenya Airways executives.
The business announced earlier this week that it wouldnât be able to start making contributions to the pilotsâ provident fund again until 2023.
