President Muhammadu Buhari has opened the final ministerial performance review retreat of his government, asserting that the implementation of high-impact projects across the nation is satisfying Nigerians’ desires and expectations.
Speaking during a retreat held to assess the degree of success made in carrying out his administration’s nine priorities, the president emphasized notable advancements in, among other things, agriculture, the economy, infrastructure, security, health, and anti-corruption.
Over 3,800 km of roads had been built in Nigeria. He said retreat attendees and visitors, including keynote speaker and former Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta.
“In recognition of the importance of critical infrastructure in economic development and the quest of this administration to leave a lasting legacy, we have implemented high-impact projects across the length and breadth of the country that meet the yearnings and aspirations of Nigerians,” the president said.
The completion of the Itakpe-Ajaokuta-Warri rail line and the Lagos-Ibadan railway were among the projects he mentioned.
“On road projects, this administration has constructed 408Km of roads, 2,499Km of SUKUK roads and maintenance of 15,961Km of roads across the country. Key among these projects is the construction of 1.9km 2nd Niger Bridge linking Anambra and Delta states with 10.30km approach road; rehabilitation, construction and expansion of Lagos-Shagamu-Ibadan dual carriageway; the ongoing rehabilitation of Abuja-Kaduna – Zaria–Kano Road, among others,” added Mr Buhari.
In addition to highlighting his administration’s continued commitment to infrastructure development over the past seven years, Mr. Buhari said that over 941 km of SUKUK road projects around the country were delivered.
He also mentioned how, in accordance with the Road Infrastructure Development & Refurbishment Investment Tax Credit Policy, his administration has rebuilt 21 federal roads totaling 1,804.6 km.
He claims that the roads sponsored by the NNPC are in addition to an ongoing partnership to upgrade the nation’s road system with Dangote Industries Limited and other corporate organizations.
In order to combat rebels and bandits, Mr. Buhari also disclosed that new aircraft had been purchased for the Nigerian Air Force.
